There are a lot of myths which surround teeth and the oral health. Some of these are funny while the others sound true. While people can laugh at the teeth dissolving in soda myth, they frown each time their children eat sugar. Which one of the myths are to be believed and which one to be taken with a pinch of salt? Sugar is the Main Culprit in Tooth Decay

Everyone has heard it at least once in their lives. In some cases, the cliché has made rounds quite a many times. But, the question is how far this is true. Though sugar has been burdened with the accusation of tooth decay, it does not actually do the evil thing. To make tooth decay happen, sugar needs to get teamed up with bacteria and acid. Sugar does not cause the damage itself. However, sugary food and drinks do lead to the teeth damage which makes it difficult to repair without the help of a dentist. If you can take care of your teeth, you can have as much sweets as you can possibly eat.

Temperature Alteration Cracks Teeth

Extreme temperature alteration might crack a tooth open, but, a bite of ice cream is not that extreme. Adult teeth that are healthy can absorb a lot of temperature change. Hairline cracks on the teeth are considered common. However, this does not mean you will take it casually. Seek dentist’s help to take care of the cracks. If you leave these untreated, the cracks will become wider and eventually, you will lose teeth. Checkup in every six month is a good idea when it comes to teeth. It will ensure that your teeth remain healthy and problem free.

Don’t Brush the Gums

Well, this is a myth. Brushing your gums can ensure oral health. It will help you erase plaque buildup. In case, your gum is bleeding, you need to get in touch with an experienced dentist who has been helping people get rid of dental issues. If you are brushing your gums, you need to brush your tongue as well. This will improve the overall oral health.

Teeth Whitening Damage Teeth

Peter Spennato DDS says this is another myth which needs to be debunked. Some believe that going for teeth whitening can damage teeth enamel. This is not true. However, it is important that you seek help from an experienced dentist for teeth whitening. If you use the DIY teeth whitening kits, you would end up damaging your teeth. Whitening is the best possible cure for stained teeth. However, this needs to be done professionally if you want to avoid damage or problem with teeth.

More Brushing Increases Tooth Health

If you think that brushing your teeth throughout the day will increase the oral health, you are mistaking. Over brushing will damage your teeth. It will wear your teeth out slowly. For this reason, you should limit brushing to twice a day.
